Apple has reached a multi-year deal with Skydance Animation to create more TV shows and movies that will be exclusive to Apple TV+. Some of the first projects that Apple will take a hold of include Skydance's Luck and Spellbound animated movies.
Skydance Animation's original children's sci-fi series, The Search for WondLa, will also come to Apple TV+ as part of the deal, according to Deadline.
Skydance Animation is the animated content division of billionaire David Ellison's Skydance Media. The animation unit is run by former Pixar giant and Oscar-winner John Lasseter, who left Pixar amid sexual harassment allegations before joining Skydance.
Skydance's Luck follows the story of a very unlucky little girl who befriends magical creatures in a fantastical world, while Spellbound tells the story of a young girl who goes on a quest to break a powerful spell. Emma Thompson pulled out of the movie Luck due to the hiring of Lasseter.
Outside of animation, Apple TV+ is ramping up its original series and movies in a bid to further compete with Netflix, Disney+, and others. Apple recently announced a new Brie Larson TV show, while it also paid many millions of dollars to acquire new movies from Will Smith and Joaquin Phoenix.
