Sierra Sports and Headgate Studios announced today the development of PGA Championship Golf 2000. The game will offer complete season and career touring modes as well as improved real-time swing control.
Sierra announced that PGA Championship Golf 2000 will offer a variety of advancements over existing golf titles. The product line's signature TrueSwing smart swing feature has been enhanced for realistic feel and control. The newest iteration of TrueSwing will attempt to better correlate the speed and pace of the mouse swing to the actual shot in the game. According to Sierra, "Players are rewarded for a fluid, evenly-paced swing and penalized for pauses at the top of the backswing, or for strokes where backswing and downswing pace are uneven."
Other enhancements to the game include five new courses, improved golfer models and golf course graphics, in-game camera views, and the course architect. The graphics will benefit from changes to the engine that will make courses easier to draw, more scaleable, smoother, and more populated with new 3D content such as clubhouses and benches.
The competitive landscape for golf games has changed substantially in the last year, and we have an opportunity to make a big move in this marketplace, said Justin Kubiak, product manager for Sierra Sports. The PGA Championship Golf series forged new ground in the areas of swing technology and course design. We're in a position to improve these strengths and bring a better product to our fans. It's because of features like TrueSwing and the Course Architect that addictive' became the most popular description of the game last year.
Headgate Studios was the developer of Sierra's Front Page Sports: Golf line, and continues to be the developer for Sierra's golf series. Expect PGA Championship Golf 2000 to ship in May 2000.
