An Early Look at Baseball in 2005
An Early Look at Baseball in 2005-November 2024
Nov 7, 2024 7:59 AM

With the World Series barely over, is it too early to start talking about baseball? Frankly, yes. But it's never too early to start talking about baseball videogames, right? Check out new screens of MLB 2006 and Mario Baseball, both due for release next year.

While details on Mario Baseball are still sketchy, if the game is anything like the recently released Mario Power Tennis, we can expect a typically skewed take on America's Pastime. Jet-pack baserunning? Treadmill base paths? Huge Mjolnir-like hammer-bats? It's all speculation at this point, so stay tuned.

MLB 2006, on the other hand, is looking to make some realism tweaks, with an enhanced fielding system that takes into consideration player footwork and momentum, as well as a new interface enhancement for fielding flyballs. Known as the "fielding zone marker" each player will have a unique zone showing the ball and its eventual destination. The size and speed of this zone marker is dependent on each player's defensive ratings. A great fielder will see his zone marker quicker than someone not known for their glovework. New franchise and career mode enhancements are also in the works for the game.
