AMD Reveals Faster XT Versions Of Its Best Ryzen 3000 CPUs-October 2024
Oct 31, 2024 10:23 PM

AMD has announced three new CPUs coming to market in July, but it's not the Ryzen 4000 desktop chips that you might have been hoping for. Instead, it's a refresh of the three best CPUs in the Ryzen 3000 range, with more performance for no additional cost.

During the production lifespan of CPUs, it's standard for manufacturing processes to become more fine-tuned, resulting in better performing CPUs within the same lines. Rather than just letting that happen without fanfare, AMD is codifying it with the new Ryzen 3000 XT line, according to Eurogamer. The Ryzen 3600XT, 3800XT, and 3900XT are all identical chips to their previous iterations, with only slight clock speed increases across the board.

The 3600XT and 3900XT will see clock speeds of 100MHz more than their X variants, while the 3800XT is getting a boost of 200Mhz. Outside of that, the chips remain identical in terms of core counts, number of threads, and the amount of cache. For reference, the 3600XT is a 6-core, 12-thread CPU, the 3800XT an 8-core, 16-thread chip, and the 3900XT a 12-core, 24-thread work horse.

AMD's new Ryzen 3000 XT CPUsWhile AMD is making a big deal of what is a standard maturing of a CPU line, it isn't expecting you to pay more for the pleasure. The XT CPUs will cost exactly the same as the X-line counterparts today. That means you can pick up a 3600XT for $249, a 3800XT for $399, and the 3900XT for $499. All three CPUs launch on July 7.

Along with Ryzen 4000 CPUs, AMD is expected to launch its next-generation graphical architecture, RDNA 2, with consumer GPUs before they arrive in both the Xbox Series X and PS5 later this year. They will likely compete directly against Nvidia's Ampere GPUs, which are expected to launch sometime in Q3 2020.
