Okonedo starred in movies such as Hellboy and Hotel Rwanda, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, and will also appear in the upcoming Netflix series Ratched. Alexander is best known for playing Leaf in Game of Thrones Season 6. Amazon has also announced Kate Fleetwood (Brave New World) as Liandrin Guirale, Peter Franzen (Vikings) as Stepin, and Clare Perkins (Death in Paradise) as Kerene Nagashi.
The showrunner for The Wheel of Time is Rafe Judkins (Agents of SHIELD), and Uta Briesewitz (Westworld, Stranger Things) will direct the first two episodes. The show does not have a premiere date yet.
The Wheel of Time takes place in a world where magic exists but only some women are able to use it. The main story follows Moiraine, who is part of Aes Sedai. She goes on a journey across the world with five others, and one of them is prophesied to be the person who will destroy or save humanity. The first 11 novels were by Jordan, with the first published in 1984. Brandon Sanderson wrote the final three after Jordan's death in 2007, based on Jordan's notes.
