All Xbox Series X Games With Confirmed Free Smart Delivery Upgrade
All Xbox Series X Games With Confirmed Free Smart Delivery Upgrade-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 1:25 AM

As the holiday slowly approaches, Microsoft continues to provide new looks at its roster of Xbox Series X games. While all the new title may have you worried about having to fork over an arm and leg to play them, you actually don't have to upgrade your hardware right away to get the Series X versions of certain cross-gen games. As part of Microsoft's push to bridge the current and next generation, the company is implementing a feature it calls Smart Delivery, which allows you to download the version that matches your current hardware. This does not require any additional fee, and it is done automatically so you never have to worry about whether you have the correct version installed.

Check below for the full list of Smart Delivery-enabled games so far, and check back as Microsoft reveals more heading into the launch of Xbox Series X this holiday season. Be sure to check back often as we update this feature with more confirmed Smart Delivery games.

CD Projekt Red has also already announced that the feature will be available for Cyberpunk 2077. There will be certain upgrades made for the game when it launches this holiday season. However, a full Xbox Series X version will not be released then.

Smart Delivery is opt-in for third-party developers, but the consumer-friendly feature already appears to be getting adopted widely. It essentially ties the game to your account and upgrades your copy if you upgrade your hardware. For example, if you buy Assassin's Creed Valhalla on Xbox One and then later buy an Xbox Series X, your new hardware will download the Series X version of the game. It should also transfer over any progress you've made via the cloud.

So far, EA has signaled that it won't offer full Smart Delivery support. Instead, you'll be able to upgrade to Madden NFL 21 on Xbox Series X for free if you buy the Xbox One version, but you'll need to do so by specific dates. There are no such restrictions on standard Smart Delivery games that we've heard of.

Take-Two is also apparently not going to make use of the program. NBA 2K21 will be priced at $70 on next-generation consoles and does not support cross-generation upgrading. The only exception to this is the $100 Mamba Edition, which does allow for an upgrade.
