Alan Wake 2 Release Shifts to Provide “More Space” to Play During a Very Busy Fall Schedule
Alan Wake 2 Release Shifts to Provide “More Space” to Play During a Very Busy Fall Schedule-November 2024
Nov 14, 2024 7:21 PM

Horror fans have been looking forward to Alan Wake 2 for a long time, but the game is going to have a lot of competition to deal with in October. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Forza Motorsport, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be hogging the spotlight, and it seems Remedy have decided to shift their game's release date a bit in order to hopefully give the game a bit more time to breathe.

An update from the Alan Wake 2 team: we're moving Alan Wake 2's launch from October 17 to October 27.

October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games.

“An update from the Alan Wake 2 team: we're moving Alan Wake 2's launch from October 17 to October 27. October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games. We can't wait to show you what everyone's favorite novelist is up to in the Dark Place next week. Thanks for your patience!”

One wonders how much difference this shift will actually make. Previously, Alan Wake 2 was launching right before Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Wonder. Is launching after them actually any better? Also, now the game will launch on almost the same day as the new Alone in the Dark. I’m guessing Alan Wake will be bigger than Alone in the Dark, but still… direct survival horror competition. I know horror games like to release around Halloween, but Remedy might want to consider moving all the way out of October. A December or early 2024 release might really let Alan Wake 2 breathe.

Haven’t been keeping up with Alan Wake 2? Do check out Wccftech’s latest Q&A with the game’s developers. Interestingly, we asked them directly about the October competition (the interview was posted back in June) and they didn’t seem to concerned at the time. Perhaps that’s changed a bit, but they are right – competition isn’t something you can ever escape…

“Well, there's always competition, right? We really only worry about making the best game we can. That's what's ultimately the most important thing. And then the rest we will see.”

Alan Wake 2 launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 on October 27. What do you think? Will you be carving out some time for Alan Wake during this very-busy October?
