Alan Wake 2 is here, and as you would expect from a survival horror game, it throws some fairly tough challenges at you, including a number of boss fights.
Warning: This article contains end-game SPOILERS for Alan Wake 2. Beware!
Alan Wake 2’s final major boss battle comes in the 7th chapter of Saga Anderson’s campaign, but before you get to that, you’ll have to take on one the most grueling combat challenge in the game. This is easiest the hardest part of the game, but with some of our tips, you’ll be able to survive (with a few curse words uttered). Check out full guide below…
So, your goal is to fend off numerous Taken so Tor and Odin can finish their summoning rock song. You’ll have to fend off three main waves of enemies and survive for a bit under 5 minutes. That said, before you set the summoning in motion, run around the beach area and grab as much ammo and resources as you can. There are multiple cases containing goodies dotted around the beach, as well as a couple propane tanks just laying in the sand. Equip your pistol, hunting rifle, and pump-action shotgun (here’s how to find all of those) as well plenty of flares, flash grenades, and propane tanks. Stock up on Trauma Packs for healing – full on first-aid kits take too long to use.
Okay, let’s get this party started – go near Tor and Odin and push X to start the onslaught. The Taken will emerge out of the water. The first wave is mainly just garden variety Taken, although there’s some of the larger deer-masked guys and flankers that will zip around attacking you from afar. Don’t waste your flashlight energy on them, there are too many – use flares and flashbangs to burn away multiple enemies’ darkness shields at once. If a number of enemies bunch up, drop a propane tank at their feet and blow them all up at once. Use your hunting rifle for further away targets and your shotgun if guys get up in your face. Target enemies’ glowing red “Source Point” weak spots if you can.
Casey and Estevez are up on a small cliff overlooking the beach and will occasionally shine a light on an individual Taken or throw down a flare. Take advantage of these to save your own supply. Casey will also sometimes throw down extra ammo and resources. Grab these. If you’re running low on life, run towards the water – it usually takes the enemies a few seconds to follow you there, giving you a chance to heal.
As mentioned, there are essentially three waves of Taken during this sequence. The second includes one of those two-headed minibosses you encounter several times in the game. The third includes several big taken wielding large hammers. Just stay on your toes, don’t forget to dodge, and you’ll get through.
Once you do enough damage to Scratch, Estevez will be able to briefly capture him with one her lights. While she does this, you need to run and get one of the two other lights in place – just hold X to rotate them. Scratch won’t stay incapacitated long enough to fully complete turning either light. You’ll need a couple attempts to fully turn each into place. Once you’ve positioned both lights, run into the cage on the beach. Scratch will follow you, and whammo – you’ve got him!
And that’s that! While the game isn’t quite over yet (there’s about an hour still to go) this is last boss and major combat challenge you’ll face. You can (mostly) relax.
