Adam Sandler Snubbed For Uncut Gems Oscar, Prepare For A Purposely Bad Movie Next-November 2024
Nov 8, 2024 4:53 AM

UPDATE: The Academy Awards nominations are out, and Adam Sandler has not been nominated for his role in the thriller Uncut Gems. Back in December, Sandler stated that he would make a movie that was "so bad on purpose" as revenge if he didn't get a Best Actor nod at this year's Oscars. But his acclaimed performance as New York jeweller Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems hasn't been recognized by the Academy--so, if Sandler is true to his word, get ready for something potentially very, very bad. Original story below.

Adam Sandler is best known for his hugely successful comedies, but he'll occasionally stretch himself with a more dramatic acting role. His latest movie, Uncut Gems, has given him some of his best ever reviews, and there's now talk that he might get his first Academy Award nomination. Sandler has now revealed he has a plan to ensure that he gets that Oscar nod.

Now Playing: Uncut Gems (2019) - Official Trailer | Adam Sandler

Sandler appeared on The Howard Stern Show to promote the movie, and explained that would be a "funny big thing" if he did get nominated. If he doesn't, Sandler revealed that he would live up to criticism that many have for his more puerile comedies. "If I don't get it, I'm going to f***ing come back and do one [movie] again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay," he said. "That's how I get them."

Elsewhere in the interview, Sandler stated that he was doing a lot more publicity for Uncut Gems than he normally does for his films. "[Directors] the Safdie Brothers and everybody worked so hard on the movie that I didn't want to do what I usually do and just go, 'Eh, I can't help you out there'," he admitted.

Uncut Gems is a crime-thriller that follows the story of Howard Ratner (Sandler), a New York City jeweller intent on amassing more wealth, who finds himself in debt to some very bad people. It's getting a limited release on December 13, before expanding wide on December 25. In his review for GameSpot, Rafael Motamayor stated that Uncut Gems "is not a feel-good movie, but one that leaves you with the sensation that you just experienced two filmmakers and a star at the height of their craft."
