Activision has announced that its earnings for the third quarter of the current fiscal year exceeded analysts' expectations, boosting the company's earning projections. Net revenues for the quarter were $264.5 million, compared with $268.9 million for the same period in the previous fiscal year. The company pointed to its conservative stance on its support of the PlayStation 2 launch and the success of such games as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Spider-Man as reasons behind its better than expected earnings performance.
"Sony's shortfall of PlayStation 2 systems has had no impact on our business model, as our conservative planning assumptions were based on having approximately 1 to 1.5 million systems available in the US during the holiday season," said Robert Kotick, co-chairman and CEO of Activision. "Our first two PlayStation 2 titles, Sky Odyssey and Orphen, have performed to expectations, and we currently have 17 other PlayStation 2 titles in various stages of development and production.''
Activision has already announced its support for the Microsoft Xbox and plans to release Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X for the console.
