Activision Blizzard Is Keenly Aware of Battle Royale’s Success, Reminds Investors That It’s A “Fast Follower”-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 6:33 AM

With Epic's Fortnite Battle Royale and Bluehole's PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds breaking records every other day, the Battle Royale genre has never been hotter than it is right now.

None of the truly big publishers have dived into this potential goldmine yet, though. It's just a matter of time in all likelihood and that's what Activision Blizzard hinted in a recent investor meeting with investment firm Oppenheimer, as reported by Sarah Needleman, journalist at The Wall Street Journal.

Apparently, Activision Blizzard claimed to be 'keenly aware' of the incredible success of these Battle Royale titles and then reminded investors that the company is a 'fast follower'. In case you're not familiar, a 'fast follower' is a company capable of recognizing good ideas implemented by competitors and adopt them quickly enough to ride the wave.

This would suggest that Activision Blizzard is already cooking a game based on the Battle Royale formula. If that's the case, we might get an announcement at E3 2018 in June.

In related Battle Royale news, Epic is now accepting registrations for their Fortnite iOS pre-launch event, with plans to expand the game onto Android devices as well later on. Needless to say, this could be a huge market for the genre.

In case you're in the mood for something different compared to the big ones, Scavengers Studio recently released Darwin Project on Steam Early Access and Xbox One Game Preview.
