A Remake Of The Raid Is Heading To Netflix - Report
A Remake Of The Raid Is Heading To Netflix - Report-November 2024
Nov 2, 2024 10:27 AM

Gareth Evans' The Raid made a monumental wave when it hit the festival scene in 2012 and set the tone for action films a decade later. The Raid's sequel--aptly titled The Raid 2--raised that bar and set the stage for movies such as the John Wick franchise. Deadline is reporting that a remake is in the works with action movie icon Michael Bay producing and Patrick Hughes set to direct.

Hughes, most notable for his directing of The Hitman's Bodyguard and its sequel, will co-write the script with James Beaufort who fans might know as James Maclurcan from Power Rangers: Operation Overdrive.

The original Raid, written and directed by Evans, was about an elite Indonesian S.W.A.T. team that becomes trapped in a high-rise slum run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers. This new version will be set in Philadelphia’s drug-infested Badlands with an elite undercover DEA task force climbing a ladder of cartel informants to catch a drug kingpin.

Hollywood has been trying to remake The Raid for American audiences for quite some time. Even as of 2020, actor Frank Grillo and Joe Carnahan were set to remake it, but parted ways with XYZ Films, who own the rights to The Raid. That film will be expected to be called Zeno, who was Grillo's character.

No cast or release date has been announced.
