I spent part of Sunday at one of my local bookstores and saw something I didn't expect: college football preview magazines. My intial reaction was to snap up every single one of them, throw $40 at the cashier, scream "keep the change" and sprint home and devour every one of them. But the more I stood there, holding a stack of glossies, the more I realized it's too damn early to be this excited about college football. After all, it's early June... a full 89 days before Auburn kicks off its first game. And even if I read every one of those magazines cover-to-cover, it's still going to be early June when I emerge.
As much as I want to, I just can't think of college football right now, otherwise I'll just get depressed. And no amount of NCAA Football 2004 (the best college pigskin game in recent years) will tide me over that long. However, I am going to call my dad today and have him scoop up a couple of SEC preview magazines, as there is no way in hell--once I decide it's OK to let college pigskin back into my purview--that it's going to be Pac-10 football.
