3dfx has announced that the Mac version of its latest 3D product, the Voodoo 5 5500 PCI, has been released nationwide. The Voodoo 5 is 3dfx's debut Mac product, and its core chip, the VSA-100, is the first from 3dfx to natively support the Mac's proprietary graphics modes. The Mac card provides all of the features of its PC cousin, including full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA).
"This product launch marks our official entry into a market that we knew was in desperate need of a superior graphics solution," said Bryan Speece, director of Macintosh business development at 3dfx. "No other graphics accelerator offers the kind of high visual fidelity and incredible 2D and 3D performance that Voodoo5 for Macintosh delivers."
3dfx's entry into the Mac market was launched with some fanfare at January's Macworld Expo in San Francisco, and 3dfx specifically added a new team to design and optimize the Mac drivers for the card. The only other major Mac 3D player currently is ATI, which provides Rage 128 boards for all of Apple's new desktops.
The Voodoo5 5500 PCI for Macintosh is now available for a suggested retail price of US$329.99.
