2K Is Looking to Expand Portfolio with Quality Titles That Have Long Engagement-October 2024
Oct 19, 2024 8:23 PM

In an interview with GamesIndustry, 2K president David Ismailer revealed some of the company's plans for the future. While 2K doesn't currently have many upcoming titles in the release schedule, Ismailer promised that will change as the portfolio is expanded with "quality titles" boasting "long engagement".

We're looking to expand and grow our portfolio, whether it's internally developing more products, or it's adding more long-term partnerships to our 2K product line. We're looking for quality products to deliver to consumers with long engagement.

We have more ideas than we have resources to execute on. So I'd grow my portfolio a lot faster if I actually increased my capacity and added significantly more on the development resource side.

This seems to be a clear nod to the game-as-a-service (GaaS) business model that so many publishers are slowly but steadily adopting these days.

Ismailer also went on to specify that 2K intends to add one additional IP to the portfolio of Firaxis Games, the Maryland-based developer known mostly for the Civilization and XCOM (reboot) franchises.

We did Civ, then we did XCOM, and now we're looking hopefully to add one more to that portfolio.

What kind of genre would you like to see Firaxis Games tackling next? Let us know in the comments.
