Microsoft has revealed that its next version of Windows--now in beta under the code name Whistler--will be named Windows XP. This moniker is said to stand for "experience," which refers to the new experiences provided by the Web services integrated in the operating system. Windows XP is due to ship at the end of this year. This schedule means the next-generation consumer operating system release is coming very close on the heels of Microsoft's previous consumer release, Windows ME, which shipped last fall.
