In a somewhat surprising announcement, Westwood Studios has revealed it is continuing the Lands of Lore series of role-playing games with Lands of Lore 3, featuring three-dimensional acceleration and advanced voxel technology, built from the ground up.

　　This time around, Lands of Lore 3 deals with the main character becoming heir to the throne while losing his soul, all in one day. In order to retrieve his soul, the character must travel from the world of Gladstone to five different worlds through portals. Each world has its own unique environment. Westwood is looking to improve upon the series by adding more character customization traits as well as four new guilds to enhance characters - attempting to create a more immersive experience for role-players to draw on.

　　"I think story is one of the most important parts of any game," Louis Castle, vice president of Westwood, stated. "A good story provides the context for everything a player does. Great gameplay and excellent graphics pull a player in, but a good reason for killing that last monster or solving that difficult puzzle makes an emotional experience out of a basic task. In Lands of Lore III, we are focusing on story to bind the gameplay and visuals together and provide meaning for what you do."

　　According to Westwood, Lands of Lore 3 is due out in the fall.
