One of the games on Sony's big E3 lot is Warhammer 40,000: Fire Warrior, a first-person shooter set in Games Workshop's gritty and futuristic Warhammer 40,000 universe. While we've seen some of the game's single-player content already, this was our first opportunity to try the game's multiplayer mode, which put us in a deathmatch against other tough Warhammer 40K characters.

　　We were quickly able to pick up on the controls and start blasting foes with the assault rifle-style weapon we were armed with by default. We also put a few new holes in our enemies with a sniper rifle we managed to find. Sometimes we got hit by rockets. But we'd respawn and keep fighting. The gameplay is fast paced and responsive, and the frame rate is usually pretty smooth, although there was little to distinguish Fire Warrior's multiplayer mode other than the Warhammer 40,000-inspired characters, settings, and weapons. Not that there's anything wrong with a good old-fashioned deathmatch.

　　At any rate, it's exciting to see online multiplayer come together for the game, since previously it was still up in the air whether the PS2 version would have online play or not. And besides, a past attempt at creating a first-person shooter based on Warhammer 40,000 ended up getting canceled, so here's hoping Fire Warrior fares much, much better.
