Universal Studios will be the new home for new merchandising and promotional programs featuring characters from its two hottest video games - Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. In addition to Crash Bandicoot action figures by ReSaurus, which have already hit the market, Universal will add an array of Spyro merchandise including plush toys and handheld LCD games from Playmates, apparel, giftware, and home furnishings.
These will be sold at Universal's theme parks, specialty outlets (like Electronics Boutique and Babbage's), both online and at a variety of mass-market retailers.
"The outstanding worldwide success of the Crash Bandicoot PlayStation series has created opportunities in other media and in licensing and merchandising,'' Jim Wilson, senior VP and general manager of Universal Interactive Studios, said in a statement. "Spyro the Dragon is also generating tremendous interest since its release last September. These two titles will drive our commitment to creating a presence for interactive properties beyond the games world.''
