An Assassin's Creed game set in the modern day is unlikely, lead writer for the franchise Darby McDevitt said during a recent Reddit AMA.

　　"I doubt we would do a modern day [Assassin's Creed]," McDevitt said. "There are just too many mechanics we would have to develop to make it believable ... vehicles, plausible modern cities, a huge array of ranged weapons, etc."

　　He explained that the modern day will most likely continue on as "context" for all future games as something to "tie them all together."

　　This is not the first time McDevitt has addressed the possibility of a modern day Assassin's Creed game. During San Diego Comic-Con in July, McDevitt said, "there's always a chance, but one of the biggest draws of the series is the historical 'tourism.'"

　　Past entries in the Assassin's Creed series have been set during various periods in history, including Colonial America, the Third Crusade, the Renaissance, and the Golden Age of Piracy.

　　Though a modern day Assassin's Creed game is unlikely, McDevitt pointed to Ubisoft's Watch Dogs as a game players can enjoy to "scratch the itch" for a modern day Assassin's Creed title.

　　Also during the Reddit AMA, McDevitt said the Assassin vs. Templar present day storyline is not coming to an end anytime soon.

　　"As for the Assassin Templar storyline resolving... I don't think so. Its been going for 80,000 years already. Why stop it now? There will certainly be a resolution to the most recent plot developments, but the overall conflict will probably rage forever, just like most deeply divided philosophical conflicts," he said.

　　Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was released last week on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U. Versions of the game for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 are due out later this month.
