Type-Z wins Gamespot's Call of Duty: Summer Assault Tournament-April 2024
Apr 30, 2025 7:15 AM

Gamespot's Call of Duty 2: Summer Assault Tournament ended with a tense battle between Type-Z and Team Analog: Sports, with Team Type-Z pulling out from behind to turn the game into a close victory, 21 kills to 19. The game started slowly, with the first three minutes of the game passing without a single kill. "We set a strategy up," Type-Z's captain said, "but I didn't think they would set up a camping strategy." Both teams mostly stayed to rooms, not venturing outside except for the occasional straggler who went looking for other members. Three and a half minutes into the match, Analog: Sports scored as Ma5ta killed N1tro, giving Analog: Sports the early lead.

"This is tense!" host Rich Gallup said.

Geoff Smith, the multiplayer designer for the game from developer Infinity Ward, agreed, saying "they're just hiding out in buildings."

Co-host Jeff Gerstmann summed it up best. "They're going to have to start taking chances," he said.

One-third of the way through the match, the score was still only 3-0. Not long after the five-minute mark, however, there was a flurry of action, as bullets began to whizz left and right. Over the next five minutes, both teams racked up kills, bringing the score to 9-6.

A few more minutes passed relatively quietly before shooting began again. With only a few minutes left in the game, Type-Z's captain scored three kills, turning the tides and bringing the scores to even, with Type-Z continuing to press and take the lead quickly.

The last few minutes went quickly with carnage flying, but Type-Z held on to their lead, not letting Analog: Sports take control again. As the match finished, Type -Z emerged the victor, 21 kills to 19.

As the victor, each member of Type -Z will receive a $450 gift card to Best Buy. Each member of Analog: Sports will each receive a $215 gift card to Best Buy for second place.

"It was really tough," Type -Z's captain admitted after the game was over, "but we played real well."
