In 2008, the Wall Street Journal reported that Disney had decided to develop the game based on Pixar's Toy Story 3 within its internal studios. The move gained attention primarily because it came as longtime Disney game maker THQ was in the midst of a significant (and evidently successful) restructuring, and the loss of its lucrative development deal seemed to be an unneeded blow.

　　Toy Box mode gives gamers access to Andy's toy chest. Today, Disney confirmed that initial WSJ report, officially announcing that Toy Story 3: The Video Game is in development at its internal outfit Avalanche Studios (not to be confused with Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche Software). Disney expects to release Toy Story 3 in tandem with its film counterpart on June 15 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC.

　　The game's full platform slate comes as Disney plans to scale back the number of titles it brings to the "highest-end console games." Last week, CEO Bob Iger said as part of its quarterly financial report that "Disney-branded games" tended to sell better on the Wii, DS, and other less technologically powerful platforms.

　　As for the game itself, Toy Story 3's story mode will be a family-oriented affair based on the film and featuring an open world for kids to explore. The console versions of the game will also include a "Toy Box" mode, in which players will be able to "create their own unique story" using playthings, such as cowboys, space rangers, and dinosaurs.
