Nintendo Switch led in hardware sales, which helped offset declines in other platforms. Overall hardware increased 2% for the quarter, with a total of $773 million brought on. Accessories increased 1%, at $503 milion.
NPD previously reported that overall spending was especially strong in March, at a total increase of 35% over March 2019. That means we could also see a similar booming report coming for Q2 as the social distancing continued.

"As people have stayed at home more, they've utilized gaming not only as a diversion and an escape, but also as a means of staying connected with family and friends. Whether it was on console or mobile, PC or virtual reality, gaming experienced play and sales growth during the first quarter."
