In terms of free content, there will be new "tasks and challenges" offered to players through daily and weekly missions after launch, while The Division's Dark Zone will offer some special events.
In addition, there are two free updates planned to launch soon after release, starting with "Incursions" in April. This is described as a "new challenging end-game activity developed specifically for squad play."
"Teams will be able to test their skills as they face seemingly unstoppable enemies to gain high-level weapons and equipment," Ubisoft said. "This update will also add one of the community's most-wanted feature, loot trading; allowing players in the same group to trade loot collected during a co-op game session."
Following that in May will be "Conflict," which adds new Dark Zone features and an additional incursion in Manhattan's Columbus Circle. Ubisoft didn't share any further details.
After that, three paid expansions will be released for The Division. Here are the official descriptions:
Expansion I: Underground
Available in June, this first major expansion lets players explore the uncharted underworld of New York City. Players will chase deadly enemies with up to three other Agents through an endless maze of tunnels and subways.Expansion II: Survival
Available this summer, this expansion will challenge players to survive as long as possible by gathering essential supplies in a very hostile environment.Expansion III: Last Stand
Next winter, a new threat rises as players and their squad must prepare to defend against a relentless foe.Interestingly, the video above teases that the Last Stand content may take place on Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty stands.
Another thing to note is that a previous report suggested all Division DLC would launch first on Xbox One, though this was not mentioned in today's announcement. For more on The Division's DLC plans, you can read GameSpot's interview on the subject with the game's developers.
In other news about The Division, pre-loading on Xbox One started March 2, while PC players can pre-load the game starting today, March 3. PS4 users, meanwhile, can get started a few days later, on March 6. Additionally, the game's file sizes across all three platforms have been revealed.
Ubisoft also has confirmed exactly when The Division's servers will be switched on.
The Division launches on March 8. The game's recently concluded open beta attracted 6.4 million players across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, representing a new record for a new IP's beta on new-generation consoles.
