Hulu's acclaimed anthology series Castle Rock has been renewed for a second season. The show is inspired by the stories of Stephen King, and the first season premiered last month to great reviews and impressive viewing figures.
Hulu confirmed the news that Castle Rock, which is produced by Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams, will be returning for Season 2 via Twitter. In addition, producer Dustin Thomason told The Hollywood Reporter that the next season will tell a separate story from Season 1, but will still be set in the same universe.

Now Playing: Castle Rock Episode 5 Breakdown! "Harvest" | References & Who Is Evil?
"Each season is going to be its own self-contained story: beginning, middle and end," he said. "But I think that just as the books do, we want to surprise viewers with the ways in which the stories intersect. Just as the places the characters pop up in very unexpected ways throughout the books, that's the kind of anthology that we would like to tell.
"One of the things about the King universe or multiverse is that some very strange things can happen when it comes to the ways that the stories unfold, and hopefully there'll be surprises along the way in terms of how the anthology works in that way. It's pretty delicious that Kathy Bates played both Dolores Claiborne and Annie Wilkes when you really think about that question in the movie adaptations. But I think that there's something for us about being faithful to the way that Steve does it in the books, that almost feels like the anthology format has already been laid out for us."
According to THR, Castle Rock Season 1 enjoyed the highest viewing rates for a Hulu original in its first and second week since its launch. Episode 6 is set to screen this week, and the 10-part season will conclude on September 12. For more, check out our guide to the show's best Stephen King Easter Eggs and references so far.
