As the remaining days of February trickle down to a short few, Blizzard boasts that it will be successful in shepherding Starcraft from beta to manufacturing before March muscles its way onto our calendars.
Starcraft is on track to release to manufacturing by the end of February. We are in 24-hour-a-day bug testing mode," Blizzard's Susan Wooley said on Thursday in a statement.
In what gamers might consider even bigger news, though, Blizzard also delivered an update on Warcraft Adventures.
"Warcraft Adventures has been progressing on schedule despite the delays in Starcraft. We recently brought onboard Steve Meretzky - a 15-year industry veteran responsible for such classic titles as Planetfall, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Zork Zero - as a consultant to review the current status of the game. We are still targeting a summer release," Wooley said.
Wooley told GameSpot News today that Meretsky had spent the entirety of last week in Blizzard's office going through it screen by screen, puzzle by puzzle.
Given that Warcraft Adventures is the company's first adventure title, Blizzard wanted to be sure it was on the right track. "We wanted to make sure we weren't getting too close ," Wooley added.
Wooley explained that Meretsky gave the title a "micro look" and that as a result, Blizzard will make plenty of tweaks to the game-in-progress (but "nothing that approaches an overhaul").
Blizzard may bring Meretsky back for more. "We loved working with him," Wooley said.
While you endure the short wait for the release of Starcraft, have a look at the box art, which hopefully will be on retailers' shelves soon.
