Electronic Arts today confirmed that Star Wars: Battlefront will launch in holiday 2015. EA management announced the launch window during a post-earnings financial call. This was followed up by a tweet.
May the Force be with you: Star Wars Battlefront will release for Holiday 2015.
— Electronic Arts (@EA) October 28, 2014
Battlefront is currently in development at Battlefield developer DICE in Sweden. We haven't seen much of the game so far (outside of some teasers), but EA plans to show more of the first-person shooter in spring 2015.
The holiday 2015 release window for the game means it will debut around the same time as J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, which hits theaters on December 18, 2015. EA said previously that it was hoping to launch Battlefront close to Episode VII, no doubt in part to benefit from the buzz.
EA signed a deal with Disney last year to create new "core" Star Wars games. In addition to Battlefront, Dead Space developer Visceral is currently at work on a new Star Wars game (reportedly an open-world game) being written by former Uncharted writer Amy Hennig.
Also during the call today, EA announced that Battlefield 5--or whatever follows Battlefield Hardline in March 2015--won't launch until fall 2016.
