Interplay used ECTS as an opportunity to announce another title in the expanding universe of games based on the Star Trek franchise, this one a real-time strategy game called Star Trek: New Worlds. The game allows players to "colonize, mine resources, research, and defend and protect the frontier and its colonists" as either the Federation, Klingon, or Romulan empires.
Interplay is developing the game in conjunction with UK developers Binary Asylum; they expect to release Star Trek: New Worlds in 1999.
