On Thursday, Square announced that it will be working in conjunction with Disney Interactive to develop a 3D action game for the Sony PlayStation2. Disney Interactive is giving it the nickname "Disney All-Stars," but the official title is yet to be announced. The game will feature Disney characters as well as original characters designed by Nomura Tetsuya. Tetsuya, who is well known as the character designer of Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and Parasite Eve, will also be the director of the game. Square showed a 3D polygon render of Goofy as a demonstration, but that does not necessarily mean that the character will appear in the game.
The title will be Play Online compatible, but the game can be played either as a stand-alone or as a network game. Square and Disney Interactive's PS2 title is scheduled for a 2001 release in Japan.
