The latest racer from Disney Interactive Studios is officially hitting the road. The publisher today announced that the arcade-style racer Split/Second will be released for the PSP and the PSP Go this holiday season.
Watch out for flying cars. Split/Second is set in a fictional TV racing show where players can create hazards to thwart the opposition. In the console and PC versions of the game, skillful drifting and drafting gave players the ability to trigger a variety of obstacles, from bursting water pipes in opponents' paths to dropping cargo liners across the track and forcing other drivers to take a detour or shortcut.
Disney didn't specify a developer for the PSP edition of the game, but the original Split/Second came from Black Rock Studio, best known as the crew behind the all-terrain vehicle racer Pure. The developer was originally known as Climax Racing, creator of 2002's MotoGP for the Xbox and Sony's ATV Offroad Fury series. The studio was acquired by Buena Vista Games (now Disney Interactive Studios) in 2006.
Split/Second debuted on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in May. For more on the original, check out GameSpot's review of Split/Second.
