According to a recent Reuters report, Taito is planning to sell Space Invaders cabinets in North America again, some 25 years after the game first appeared in arcades. The manufacturing and sales of Space Invaders will be handled by Namco, and Taito hopes to sell around 10,000 of the $2,772 machines.
"There has been a rebirth of classic video games in America," said Taito spokesman Kengo Naka. "We thought it would coincide nicely with the 25th anniversary of its debut in the US."
The game will not be different from the 1978 original in any way, although Taito has stated that a single play on the game will cost 50 cents as opposed to the 25 cents charged when the game was first launched.
