Creative Technology announced that it will be releasing new drivers this fall to build up support for Environmental Audio Extensions (EAX) in its PCI-based audio cards - including the Sound Blaster PCI64, Creative Ensoniq Audio PCI, and Sound Blaster PCI128. If you can't wait that long, the company's forthcoming Sound Blaster Live! audio card will ship this summer with the EAX extensions. The Sound Blaster Live!, powered by the new EMU10K1, will be the optimal card for listening to any EAX-compatible title.
Environmental Audio Extensions allow game developers to add interactive audio environments to their worlds for gamers equipped with any Creative Labs PCI audio card. Assuring that the extensions will have full compatibility, EAX is fully compatible with Microsoft's DirectSound 3D. Already, Dreamworks' Trespasser and Epic's Unreal have signed up to support the extensions.
