The PlayStation 4 will be "supply-challenged" for the balance of year, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House has said. In an interview with The Guardian, House explained that Sony succeeded in having enough units available for the system's launch in North America and Europe, but admitted demand has not been fully addressed with follow-up shipments.

　　"So I’d characterise it as being somewhat supply-challenged for the remainder of the calendar year, but hopefully we’ll be able to satisfy that pent-up demand as we get out to January and February," House said.

　　Despite initial supply challenges, House said the PS4 remains on track to outpace sales of the PlayStation 3 during its first fiscal year (November 2006-March 2007), when it sold 3.5 million units during that time frame. Sony expects to sell 5 million PS4 systems during the November 2013-March 2014 window.

　　Regarding the calendar year, Sony said in November that it expects to sell 3 million PS4 systems by the end of 2013--now just 11 days away. The PS4 has sold 2.1 million units officially so far, but Sony has not provided a sales update since December 3.

　　The PS4 is currently available in 48 countries, which will rise to 49 when the system comes to India on January 6. Microsoft's Xbox One is only available in 13 markets, but has achieved the same 2 million sales mark.
