Sony PDA Gets Date
Sony PDA Gets Date-April 2024
Apr 19, 2025 7:36 PM

Sony plans to launch PocketStation on Dec. 23 in Japan. The PocketStation, which looks similar to the popular Tamagotchi, allows gamers to save games from their PlayStation, check the time, view a calendar, or play small games on the devices. Sony says that 31 PocketStation-compatible titles will be released early in 1999.

Applications for the device are downloaded from the PlayStation through the memory slots, and gamers will be able to utilize time of year and seasons in devices based on the PocketStation's calendar function. One interesting idea would be to have special date cheats that would only activate on specific days of the year (for example you could play as Santa Claus on December 25).

Although the units are small, they will come with some interesting and powerful functions. The PocketStation comes equipped with a 32-bit RISC processor, a small LCD display, a speaker, and infrared transmission and receiving capabilities (for head-to-head games without wires). When released, the device will sell for 3,000 yen (US$21).
