Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. announced Thursday in Japan that it has developed a personal digital assistant that uses data from PlayStation memory cards. Set to hit shelves at the end of this year, it will apparently be about the same size as a Tamagotchi , and can also be used to play games.
The unit will feature an LCD display and be capable of infrared communication between the PDA and other devices.
One of the very peculiar features of the unit is that it can exchange digital characters from PlayStation games via the PS memory card, for training purposes, then be reloaded onto the home system for battle with friends. No doubt, the plan includes a crack at nabbing the audience Nintendo has monopolized with its Pocket Monsters series.
