Megamedia will develop a new multiplayer game for Sony's 15-screen multiplex and gaming arcade, now under construction in San Francisco.
Megamedia tells GS News the Badlands gaming unit is an enclosed simulator-type pod operating on a motion-based platform designed to network 40 players at a time. Each pod contains viewing, steering, and audio components, giving players a "realistic vehicle" experience. Badlands takes place in outer space. The gamer's goal is to amass points and become King of the Asteroids.
According to Raaj Menon, Megamedia's president, Sony contacted Megamedia about designing a game for the new, 350,000 square foot complex that Sony will open next year.
This is the first time the two companies have worked together.
