Skype users on Xbox One will be able to place group video calls for free for a period of six months, so long as they are an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, Microsoft announced today.

　　Normally, Skype group video calls cost $5/month.

　　Also for six months, Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to place up to 100 minutes of worldwide minutes per month for calls to mobiles and landlines in over 50 countries. The offer must be redeemed through the Skype app on Xbox One by March 31, 2014 and is valid only in the console's 13 launch territories.

　　Skype functionality on Xbox One was highlighted in the 12-minute video Microsoft released today showing off the system's various features and functionality.

　　Skype calls on Xbox One will display in 1080p, so long as both users have compatible HD displays. In addition, the video calling service can run alongside other entertainment apps, allowing users to watch live or recorded media while simultaneously conducting a call.

　　Lastly, Skype for Xbox One makes use of the Kinect's wide view lens and auto-zoom functionality, which means the camera will automatically focus on callers in the frame, wherever they may move.
