From a far-future Ark to the antiquated high seas, gamers have a range of possible points in time to visit this week.
Leading the charge is Splash Damage's Brink for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game takes place in the year 2035 in a floating city called The Ark following Earth's near-total destruction. Two warring factions, the Security and the Resistance, are going head-to-head for control of the city. After choosing sides in the fight, players will pick from a variety of classes and complete specific mission objectives related to those roles. Multiplayer will also factor heavily into the first-person shooter.
Brink catapults to retail. Gamers looking to play another whimsical Lego adventure title can pick up Lego Pirates of the Caribbean on Tuesday for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, 3DS, DS, PSP, or PC. The game features narrative elements, characters, and locations from the first three films (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End), as well as the upcoming Stranger Tides.
Lego Pirates of the Caribbean will let players control 70 characters through 20 levels, and it will also sport a cooperative mode, where two players can plunder and loot together. Additionally, the title includes a Freeplay mode, where players can return to previously beaten levels to collect items.
Also out on Tuesday is Sega's latest entry in its long-running tennis franchise, Virtua Tennis 4. The game will capitalize on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii's motion-sensing capabilities. The Wii and PS3 editions of the game will make use of their systems' respective Wii Motion Plus and PlayStation Move controllers. Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 edition will make use of Microsoft's new camera-based peripheral, the Kinect.
Lego Jack Sparrow takes to the high seas this week. Beyond revamped controls, Virtua Tennis 4 will feature a new World Tour career mode that measures success on the court and fame off of it, as well as branching career paths. Sega is also including a new online mode split into competitive and casual play, online tournaments, and "a more competitive matchmaking system."
