I apologize if you're eating food while reading this post. From Canadian photographer Justin Poulsen comes the freaky creation you see above, a severed-thumb USB drive he's using as part of promotional mailer campaign for his company. I'd say it's succeed already in catching some eyeballs.
Poulsen used a mold of his own thumb to take the term "thumbdrive" to the next level. Embedded in the mold is a working USB drive, and he went to great lengths to make the thumbs look shockingly realistic. There is even a bloody patch on the back.
Accompanying the drives is a message that claims Poulsen can help make his clients "stick out like a sore thumb." Surely anyone receiving this package in the mail will pay more attention to it than the typical card stock known to arrive in your mailbox.
For now, I think I'll stick with my Bart Simpson USB drive.
