Sega's Next Arcade Hardware Announced
Sega's Next Arcade Hardware Announced-April 2024
Apr 19, 2025 10:54 AM

Imagination Technologies today announced the first details on the graphics chips to be used in Sega's next arcade machine. Based on the Power VR architecture, the technology incorporates an advanced Power VR co-processing engine that enables full hardware geometry transformation and lighting. As in the current Naomi arcade board, it will also provide support for the use of multiple Power VR rendering processors in one arcade game.

Sega, along with NEC and Imagination Technologies will incorporate this technology into next-generation arcade titles, which will be released as early as this year.

"Sega has been working with NEC and Imagination Technologies to develop a system that utilizes PowerVR's inherent scalability, and the new associated hardware geometry and lighting engine. It delivers a new, unmatched level of gaming experience to arcades worldwide," said Hideki Sato, corporate senior Vice President, at Sega Enterprises.

Details on specific games were not announced. But with the first games to be released in 2000, it would not be surprising to see the fourth installment in the Virtua Fighter series on this new arcade hardware.
