Sega Teases a Team Up With Pokemon Developer Game Freak
Sega Teases a Team Up With Pokemon Developer Game Freak-April 2024
Apr 28, 2025 4:08 AM

Sega and Pokemon developer Game Freak appear to be collaborating on some kind of project.

The image above was sent out in a tweet today by Sega. Unfortunately, it wasn't accompanied by an explanation or, indeed, any additional text whatsoever. That leaves us with little more than the logos for Sega and Game Freak, a small amount of artwork (are those grenades and peanuts?), and a date: March 11. The "don don don" on the right side is presumably unimportant, being the Japanese onomatopoeia for the sound an animal would make while stomping around.

Sega recently underwent some serious restructuring that resulted in more than 300 jobs being cut. The company's San Francisco office is being relocated, and Sega as a whole is shifting its focus to smartphone and online PC gaming.

Game Freak is the longtime developer of the handheld Pokemon RPG series. In addition to that series, it's also developed other, non-Pokemon games, including 3DS title HarmoKnight. Its games have almost exclusively been released for Nintendo platforms, although one--Solitiba--was released on iOS and Android in Japan last year. Knowing that, we can't even be sure that this Sega project will end up on a Nintendo system.

Luckily, we'll be finding out more next Wednesday. In the meantime, let us know what you think this tease is for in the comments below.
