In March, Nihilistic Software will mark the launch of its PlayStation Move Heroes, a crossover game featuring company mascots including Insomniac Games' Ratchet and Clank. That effort is apparently shaping up nicely, as Sony has decided to hand off another of Insomniac's signature series to Nihilistic.

　　Given the series' fatalistic tone, Nihilistic is a fitting choice for the handheld version. (Screen from Resistance 3 for the PS3.) Insomniac broke the news on its official Twitter account today, saying, "Congratulations to Nihilistic Software on the announcement of their upcoming Resistance game for the NGP." Resistance was one of several Sony first-party franchises announced as headed for the NGP at a Japanese press event Thursday.

　　While Nihilistic is handling duties for the next handheld version of Resistance, Insomniac is still working on the franchise. The studio is currently working on Resistance 3 for the PlayStation 3, which will launch September 6 in North America.

　　This is not the first time Insomniac's alternate history sci-fi shooter has been entrusted to another developer. In 2009, Sony Bend released the first portable edition of the series, Resistance: Retribution. Previously, the studio had only been responsible for entries in the Syphon Filter series of games.

　　Nihilistic's past work is more varied. The developer established itself with the PC role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption in 2000 and has since released Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, THQ's Conan, and the downloadable arcade-style shooter Zombie Apocalypse. Additionally, Nihilistic worked on Blizzard's ill-fated Starcraft: Ghost.
