Between cutting the price of the PlayStation 3 to $250 and introducing a €99 PSP in Europe, Sony evidently had money on its mind during its 2011 Gamescom press conference. One announcement that didn't make it into that media briefing was the introduction of a discount movie rental program for the PlayStation Network.
Want to watch JFK: Reckless Youth (Part 1) on your PS3 for $1? Now you can do so, in standard definition at least. Beginning today, PSN users in the US and Canada can download and watch a range of movies in standard definition for $.99 or high definition for $1.99. Sony has been offering movies for rent since 2008, when it introduced the service as part of its 2008 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing.
Movies that are party to the $.99 rental program will rotate from week to week, with new offerings appearing as part of Sony's regularly scheduled Tuesday update to the PSN. A full list of this week's movie-rental deals for the US PSN store can be found below.
