Prometheus Sequel May Have Changed Title Again
Prometheus Sequel May Have Changed Title Again-April 2024
Apr 28, 2025 12:10 AM

While it wasn't a surprise that Ridley Scott was directing a sequel to his 2012 sci-fi horror hit Prometheus, the title for the film was. In September, it was reported that the film would in fact be called Alien: Paradise Lost, suggesting it would have a lot of more in common with the Alien movies than first thought. Now it seems that the title has changed again.

During an interview about his career at the AFI Film Festival, Scott referred to the movie as Alien: Covenant. This happened after the director was asked about how he chooses his projects. "I've got no plan," he said, as reported by Indiewire. "I go from pillar to post randomly. I have this childlike fascination and thrill of doing it.

"I was going to be doing what will be called Alien: Covenant, which starts shooting next February, and we were struggling with the screenplay. There and then there was a phone call, somebody saying, ‘Listen, we've got this thing which is completely written called Martian, and I said, ‘Huh.' And I speed read it in an hour and by mid-afternoon, I talked to Fox and said, ‘I need to talk to 'Drew [writer Drew Goddard]…'"

Originally, two Alien films were going to be made over the next few years--Scott's Prometheus sequel, and the direct sequel Alien 5, directed by District 9's Neill Blomkamp. However, Blomkamp has since confirmed that his film was now on hold.

Alien: Covenant will shoot in Australia next year, and once again star Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender.
