Independence Day may be a thing of the past, but Nintendo is hoping to light a few fireworks of its own on its online store. The company's digital library added eight new titles this week, including a high-flying, dogfighting air combat WiiWare title, the latest installment in the Flips series, and six others.

Pearl Harbor Trilogy - 1942: Red Sun Rising (700 Wii points, or $7) is the first in a trilogy of flight combat sims set during World War II. Players enlist as either a pilot in the United States Naval Air Force or the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Force and will take off from an aircraft carrier and fly a variety of air combat missions. Additionally, the game has two supplementary modes: Avenging Ace and Survival. But the specifics of each was not noted. WiiWare gets aerial dogfighting this week.

The second title hitting WiiWare this week is Cruise Party (800 Wii points, or $8) from Enjoy Gaming. In this maritime casino title, players can try their hand at an assortment of games, including slot machines, black jack, roulette, and "video" poker. Set on a cruise ship, the game also has a Competition and Quick Play mode.

Switching to DSiWare, SteamWorld Tower Defense (500 DSi points, $5), from Image & Form, makes its way to the download hub. The single-player title takes place in Cowbot Country, and as the sheriff, players are tasked with impeding the human invaders in their hunt for gold. Like other tower defense games, SteamWorld demands both strategy and execution to prevail.

Also arriving on DSiWare this week is Electronic Arts' latest Flips entry: Flips: The Folk of the Faraway Tree (500 DSi points, or $5). This digital mini-novel, aimed at children, tells the tale of Jo, Bessie, and Fanny and their attempt to convince a snooty Connie to believe in the Faraway Tree.

The third title hitting the portable's download destination this week is Hello Flowerz (500 DSi points, or $5). From Enjoy Gaming, the gardening game has players sowing their favorite flowers and entering them into contests. Players will also landscape gardens, transplant flowers, and compile floral arrangements.

Another game hitting DSiWare this week is 101 Shark Pets (500 DSi points, or $5) from Teyon. This shark-adoption game lets players bring home sharks, discover their personalities, enter the toothy sea creatures in contests, and unlock additional items for their maritime beasts.

From Gameloft this week comes Soul of Darkness (500 DSi points, or $5). The single-player game puts players in a gothic world overrun with vampires, where the ability to wield mystical powers and weapons proves paramount. Players will encounter werewolves, succubae, gargoyles, and zombies on their quests.

The final title arriving on DSiWare this week is QuickPick Farmer (200 DSi points, or $2) from Dancing Dots. In the title, players must round up and shear their sheep before a prowling wolf named George can thwart the plan. The game comes with 30 levels and variety of game types to keep the shearing action fresh.
