Nvidia enables quad-GPUs
Nvidia enables quad-GPUs-April 2024
Apr 21, 2025 3:14 AM

The Nvidia GeForce 7950 GX2 did not support Quad-SLI when Nvidia first released the design this past June, but the new ForceWare 91.45 graphics driver released today will finally allow PC system builders at home to put two dual-GPU GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics cards together in a single system.

According to Nvidia, the graphics processing power provided by the quad-GPU system will enable resolutions up to 2560x1600 with high image-quality settings.

Initial response has been positive within the technology community. Enthusiast tech Web site HardOCP tested several games on a dual-GX2 system running with "SLI8X" antialiasing, 16x anisotropic filtering, and resolutions ranging from 1920x1200 to 2560x1600. The site reported that most games produced "incredibly sharp" image quality, but it also tempered its praise by cautioning that the technology "has some driver issues to overcome" after encountering crashing and ghosting problems in Far Cry.

All that image quality comes with a steep price. Single GeForce 7950 GX2 cards currently retail for around $600 each. Aspiring system builders will also need a Quad SLI-approved power supply and motherboard to assemble a complete system.
