Nicolas Cage Reveals How Many More Movies He Has Left To Make, And It's Not Many-April 2024
Apr 19, 2025 9:02 AM

Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage has appeared in numerous films over the years, from small-budget independent films to blockbusters. His time as a film actor is seemingly coming to an end, though. Cage told Vanity Fair that he believes he may only have "three or four more movies left in me."

Cage said he feels he's "said what I've had to say with cinema" and doesn't plan to work much more in film. "I think I took film performance as far as I could … I do want to get much more severe and stringent in my selection process … I want to say bye on a high note," he said.

Cage, 59, said he might only have 15 years left to live, but "hopefully more." In any event, Cage said he wants to spend more time with his family at this stage of his career.

In an interview with Uproxx, Cage--who has made more than 100 movies over his career--said he wants to work on a TV show in the future. "I am very interested in immersion streaming with episodic television. I saw Bryan Cranston stare at a suitcase for an hour on one episode of Breaking Bad," he said. "We don't have time to do that in a feature film, so maybe television is the next best step for me. We'll see."

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cage said he made so many movies in the later stages of his career to help pay the IRS the $14 million he owed in back taxes. "I made the decision to work my way out of it," he said.

Cage went on to say that he's a better person when he's working, because when he has too much free time, he can slip into unhealthy habits.

"I don't want to be that guy that's sitting by a pool getting bombed on mai tais and Dom Perignon,” he said. "I have been that guy in between jobs and it's only fun for maybe two days and then you're like, 'I gotta get healthy,'" he said.

Cage's next movie is the A24 film Dream Scenario, in which he plays an unremarkable everyman who, for some reason, starts appearing in everyone's dreams.
