Apr 19, 2025 10:56 AM

Numerical Design has announced that it has reached an agreement with Microsoft to provide Xbox game developers with its NetImmerse 3D engine. NetImmerse-based game titles include Irrational Games' Freedom Force, Oddworld Inhabitants' Munch's Oddysee, Totally Games' Star Trek Bridge Commander, and more.

"NetImmerse has established a strong reputation in the games industry, and we welcome NDL's technology to the Xbox Tools Program," said Drew Angeloff, tools program manager for Microsoft's Xbox. "Based on numerous requests from Xbox game developers, we have selected NetImmerse to be a part of our tools portfolio."

"NetImmerse is an important component in our development of games for the Xbox console," said Larry Holland, president of Totally Games. "Using NetImmerse, we expect our new Xbox title to significantly raise the bar in graphics quality and depth of gameplay for what is expected in a console game."

The Xbox will arrive in the fall of 2001. Microsoft is expected to show several of its launch games at E3 2001.
