According to a new synopsis for the film, it will focus on a pony named Sunny who wants to restore magic to the once-happy world of Equestria. Sunny befriends a lost Unicorn named Izzy, and the pair set out on a series of adventures that includes a "daring jewel heist, outrageous conspiracy theories, elaborate musical numbers, and the world’s cutest flying Pomeranian."
The movie was originally set to be distributed theatrically by Paramount, but earlier this month, it was reported that Hasbro had struck a deal with Netflix to release the film internationally, with the exception of China. The movie is the latest release from the hugely successful franchise, which launched in 1982. The last film was 2017's My Little Pony: The Movie, which was a spinoff from the reboot series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
As for the Netflix show, it will be a CG animated series that will continue the adventures of Sunny and her friends. The series and film will be accompanied by a new range of toys featuring the new characters and the updated animation style.
Hasbro has also announced that it is co-producing a new 26-episode animated Transformers show with Nickelodeon. The series will premiere on Nickelodeon in the US, before rolling out internationally.
