When pushed on the subject of what kind of future Dota 2 can have at ESL when being compared to a publisher funded event Carmac responds stating that they are working on something huge for Dota 2, a new league on the scale of the Intel Extreme Masters event.

"We're building a [Dota 2] league which is on par with Intel Extreme Masters"

He also responds to the claims about the differences between how the title has been treated in comparison to the IEM flagship game League of Legends.

"There is some really fucking exciting shit that we are announcing for Dota, so it's not like we are being paid to never touch Dota."

The Spodek arena is the venue of choice for the Intel Extreme Masters event when it's hosted in Katowice, Poland. In the past ESL's Dota 2 events have been played under the EMS One league which is a multi season tournament with an online qualifiers and offline finals. A couple of different locations were used last year for the offline finals however both were relatively small in size and didn't allow for a large amount of on-site spectators.

This has sparked complaints from the Dota 2 community on multiple occasions seeing as the location used has been in the same city in which the Intel Extreme Masters events were hosted in however the venue has remained exclusive to League of Legends and Starcraft 2.

A new league on the scale of Intel Extreme Masters would be a huge addition to the Dota 2 calendar, here's hoping ESL can deliver.
